This is the original design seal, If fitted correctly they can perform well for many years, but we have a theory on how to improve its chances: During Installation, the plastic guide expands the seal to guide it over the crankshaft, this expansion is so great that it takes 2 to 3 days for the seal to shrink back to its original size. These seals have a special teflon coating that must not be disturbed, and must be fitted dry (no oiling on the seal lands at all), if this seal is fitted, and the engine is run within a day or two after fitting, the seal has not fully shrunk to original size and oil will get in between the seal and crank and that's it, it'll leak continuously. Seal should be fitted with metal composite gasket ERR6811 coated on both sides with suitable RTV sealant such as ThreeBond 1215 or Loctite STC50550
